Antique Stoneware Crock - Red Wing Union Pottery 2 Gallon Pantry Jar

A wonderfully timeworn piece of American utilitarian pottery, this antique two-gallon crock was produced by Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. in Red Wing, Minnesota. Its creamy Bristol glaze is punctuated by the classic blue 2, rust-red wing emblem, and blue oval company stamp, with generations of staining and wear giving the surface plenty of genuine old-crock character.

Condition
Good antique condition with no major structural damage noted. There is substantial brown staining and discoloration concentrated around the lower portion, along with scratches, rubbing, glaze wear, small pits and imperfections throughout. Several chips and areas of glaze loss are present along the bottom edge, as photographed. White residue is present inside the crock. Please review all photos closely for condition.

Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. was created through the 1906 merger of several Red Wing pottery operations. The familiar wing logo was subsequently adopted, and the company's markings and decoration help place this example in the early 20th century.

Styling Notes
The heavy staining is actually rather handsome on this one and gives it a more primitive, utilitarian look than pristine collector examples. Display it alone as an early American pottery piece or use it for dried branches, wooden utensils, rolled textiles, or other non-food display purposes.
