Antique Papier Mache Wall Pocket - Victorian Black Lacquer Painted White Flowers
Antique Papier Mache Wall Pocket - Victorian Black Lacquer Painted White Flowers
This one is a particularly lovely Victorian wall pocket, with a shaped architectural back and deep front compartment finished in glossy black lacquer. Delicate white chrysanthemum-like flowers, green foliage, tiny red berries, and warm metallic accents decorate the surface, with dimensional inlaid details giving the floral design wonderful texture against the black ground.
Condition
Good antique condition with wear consistent with age. Surface scratching, scuffing, finish wear, and areas of craquelure are present throughout. There is also a small area of material/finish loss along one side near the pocket, as photographed. The hanging hole remains intact. Minor chipping on left corner and inner right side. Please review all photos closely for condition.
