The Carquinez Bridge: A Historical Connection Between Vallejo and Crockett

The Carquinez Bridge, an iconic fixture in California's transportation history, has stood as a testament to engineering prowess and vision since its completion in 1927. Originally conceived to replace the slow and often unreliable ferry service across the Carquinez Strait, the bridge quickly became a vital link between the San Francisco Bay Area and the inland regions. With its elegant steel truss design, it not only facilitated the movement of goods and people but also symbolized progress and connectivity in an era of rapid growth and development. Over the decades, the bridge has undergone expansions and reinforcements, evolving to meet the needs of modern traffic while retaining its historical significance.

In this antique photo we get a behind the scenes look at a tugboat in the center while the Carquinez bridge is being pieced together.

Here we see the bridge in a more-assembled state from a similar perspective, overlooking it's construction from the Crockett Hills.

The last antique photo fo the series shows vehicles parked at one end of the bridge, implying now the bridge is complete and in-use.

Crockett History Files:

When we opened our shop, The Cat Vintage & Antiques - aka The Cat Vintage, we knew we were in an area rich with stories, life, and history. Despite its quaint seeming surface, Crockett has a lot going on. Many generations of families have lived their whole lives here. There have been beloved local businesses that have come and gone. Weddings, graduations, anniversaries, new construction and changes have all enriched the history of Crockett.

We're committed to preserving anything digitally archivable that we can, especially about Crockett and it's history. Often my sister, Sam, and I will meet with local residents to help us place the locations and subjects of photographs we find or are given. It is our hope that by digitally archiving these memories we help preserve the way life was, once upon a time.
